The Needy Today Sierra Leone
BRIEF INFORMATION
The Needy Today came as a result of what is about the children in Sierra Leone environments. During the war children were separated from their families and now orphaned and abandoned in the street.
The Needy Today Sierra Leone is a registered charity agency at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs with the aims to address the basic needs of war, economical and social affected children.
The Needy Today will sponsor such children and meets their daily basic needs through finding foster parents to responsible for them.
1. CHILD SPONSORSHIP
TNT helps to provide socio-economic assistance to affected and needy children in Sierra Leone in extreme hardship and poverty. This can help them from further suffering. The Needy Today desires to meet their daily needs for basic survival and to remover them out of the street. TNT will provide beneficiaries in the form of food staples, clothing, medical care and educational expenses for children.
The Needy Today long-term goal is to provide house needy children and educate them till they become self reliant. These children will be provided with income generating skills to live a better life in the future. The Needy Today requests the financial resources or assistances of Individuals, churches or donors/organisations for children in needs. The Needy Today has 50 registered children taken care off. More are coming in for financial support, which should be provided monthly or yearly. Sponsors or foster families are needed to help meet this demand.
ACTIVITIES
Ø Registering of orphans needing support
Ø Child’s assessment about his needs and family situation
Ø Request for monthly economic or educational assistance for registered child in the form of food staples, clothing, financial assistance, and/or educational expenses.
Ø Monthly follow-ups and assistances and reports to Donors
Ø Committed Social workers (s) reports and strict accountability required.
Ø Reports
Ø Links with appropriate government officials and children’s agencies/institutions.
2. FOSTER CARE
TNT - The Needy Today Sierra Leone will work with the Sierra Leonean government, Legal offices, and other establishments and agencies for TNT children’s welfare of orphaned infants or children in urgent needs of intensive living care, and permanent placement in a family. The Needy Today Sierra Leone considers fostering as a last resort to assist these infants/children through transitional care whilst planning for a permanent, caring home or orphanage.
ACTIVITIES
Ø Select qualified orphans and abandoned children for foster caring.
Ø Abandoned or orphaned qualified for adoption and foster caring could benefit from medical care and other supports.
Ø Qualified children accepted by The Needy Today will be placed in foster homes at national and international level, and be given the financial support needed to provide all the milk, food, clothing, shelter, medical care, love and nurture necessary to ensure their survival and growth.
Ø Children accepted will be placed in a caring home.
Ø Adoption agencies are needed to work in Line with the principles of the Government of Sierra Leone, District council and TNT.
Ø Monthly operational cost including food, milk, staff salaries, to be covered.
